Guardians of Nocera,
interpreters of time.

Our philosophy

Cambria, guardians of excellence in Furnari.

Not just a winery, but a family story that began over a century ago.

In the beating heart of the Messina area, where the hills of Furnari look out over the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aeolian Islands, the Cambria winery rises. It is not just a winery, but a family story that began over a century ago, fuelled by a passion handed down like the most precious of secrets. Our philosophy is a delicate balance between respect for our roots and a vision turned towards the future. We work the land knowing that every cluster carries within it the breath of the sea and the strength of the Sicilian sun. In the cellar, the most advanced technology is placed at the service of tradition, allowing us to bottle the authentic essence of a unique terroir.

Choosing a Cambria wine means embarking on a sensory journey through a refined, elegant and timeless Sicily.

Our production mosaic extends over 25 hectares of vineyards, divided into small historic estates such as Mastronicola, Masseria and Cinque Fontane. Here, between 150 and 350 metres above sea level, the vines sink their roots into a soil rich in marine marls and limestone, caressed by a unique microclimate where Tyrrhenian winds soften the heat of the Sicilian sun.

It is in this setting that our production becomes the expression of a craftsmanlike, meticulous methodology that accepts no compromise.

The estates

Our production mosaic extends over 25 hectares of vines, divided into small historic estates such as Mastronicola, Masseria and Cinque Fontane.

The soil

Between 150 and 350 metres above sea level, the vines sink their roots into a soil rich in marine marls and limestone: a unique geological heritage.

The microclimate

The vines are caressed by a unique microclimate, where the Tyrrhenian winds soften the heat of the Sicilian sun, without compromise.

Our story

Since 1864, year after year.

  1. 1864

    The vines come to life

In Furnari, under the watchful protection of the Sanctuary of Tindari and with a view of the Aeolian Islands, Azienda Cambria is born. The exceptional 1864 harvest convinces Matteo Cambria to sell the surplus wine: an adventure begins that still continues today.

  2. 1892

The estate passes into Rocco's hands

With the baton passing to Rocco, Matteo's eldest son, the Cambria family's winemaking intensifies and new growing techniques are also imported from abroad.

  3. 1952

    Matteo, third generation

Rocco's eldest son — Matteo — combines wine production with the management of vineyards belonging to other landowners in the province of Messina. The historic Cambria wines are born: Mamertino and Bazia, in two varieties.

  4. 1985

    The great renewal

Nino takes over the reins with the collaboration of his brother Franco — General Manager and Head of Production. New machinery, marketing, native clones replanted. Distribution extends across all of Italy and bottling returns to the cellar in Furnari.

  5. 2005

    Mastronicola: the Nocera adventure

A new era begins with the Mastronicola estate: the rediscovery of Nocera, a native grape with a millennia-old history dating back to the days of Julius Caesar.

  6. 2009

    The first Nocera harvest

On 15 September 2009 the Nocera grapes from Mastronicola are harvested for the first time: selected, certified and replanted by Nino Cambria. A step that makes Cambria a leading voice for one of the rarest wines on the international scene.

  7. 2011

    Mastronicola Gran Cru

Launch of Mastronicola, Gran Cru of the Furnari Hills 2009.

  8. 2013

The symbol

Nocera, the noble blood
of an ancient Sicily.

If there is one grape that embodies the identity and the courage of the Cambria winery, it is without doubt Nocera. An ancient variety, almost forgotten by time, that we chose to protect and enhance until making it the undisputed symbol of our production.

Already cited by ancient historians as one of the favourite wines of Roman generals and great emperors, it is a grape of proud character and vibrant personality. In our Furnari vineyards it has found its ideal habitat.

With a deep, impenetrable ruby colour, it opens on the nose in an explosion of small red fruits, black pepper and Mediterranean shrubland. The palate matches a powerful yet silky structure, sustained by a mineral freshness that only the closeness of the sea can give.

"Our Nocera is not just a wine: it is a declaration of love for Sicilian biodiversity and the proof that true innovation lies in knowing how to listen to the voice of the past."
